Artes improves efficiency and workplace safety with automated waste handling

To improve efficiency, workplace safety and waste handling processes, Italian label manufacturer Artes srl invested in an automated waste handling solution from Lundberg Tech. The investment has enabled the company to streamline waste handling, improve working conditions and support high-efficiency production across its operations.

When asked what prompted Artes to invest in an automated waste handling solution, CEO Eng. Luca Airoldi explains:

“With several production machines and a significant volume of waste to manage, we previously relied on a cart-based collection system. This method required dedicated personnel to collect waste and involved a considerable amount of time. In addition, machine operators had to manually handle heavy waste rolls, creating ergonomic and workplace safety concerns. These factors, together with the need to optimize our overall production process, led us to evaluate an automated waste handling system.”

Following a constructive dialogue with Lundberg Tech and its long-standing Italian partner FDM, Artes selected a Lundberg Tech Central Waste Handling System. Today, the system is connected to 10 printing presses for matrix waste collection and 7 inspection tables for edge trim removal.

The choice of supplier was clear, according to Luca Airoldi:

“We chose Lundberg Tech primarily because it is an internationally recognized leader specializing in automated waste handling systems. Another key factor was the presence in Italy of FDM with whom we have had a relationship spanning several decades based on mutual trust. The combination of Lundberg Tech’s technological expertise and a trusted local Italian partner gave us full confidence to proceed with this investment.”

Today, the benefits of the investment can be seen across both production and waste handling operations.

“The decision has proven beneficial in several ways. In addition to eliminating manual handling and waste collection issues, we have achieved a much more efficient waste management process. The system has also enabled us to increase machine production speeds, with particularly noticeable benefits in more demanding applications, where prompt waste extraction is essential for maintaining high production performance.

We have also gained significant logistical and economic advantages: Cutting the waste results in high material compaction, significantly reducing its volume and therefore the number of transports required for disposal. Once compacted, the waste is transferred to an authorized waste management facility, where it is converted into fuel for energy recovery in cement plants,” Luca Airoldi concludes.
