Zeus Labels – Label Converting

Creating space, safety and stability in label production with automated waste handling

“We have had no trouble at all since the installation of the Lundberg Tech Central System 6 years ago,” says David Hedley, Group Production Manager at Zeus Labels, Northern Ireland.

Founded in 2008 as JH Label Solutions, part of James Hamilton Group (Lurgan) Ltd., the company supplied plain and printed labels to the local market. In 2023, it was acquired by Zeus Packaging Group and rebranded as Zeus Labels. Today, Zeus Labels produces label solutions for a wide range of industries, including beverages, food manufacturing, health and beauty, household products, and products containing chemicals and oils.

Previously, conditions in the factory made daily operations more complex than they needed to be, as David Hedley explains:

“I joined JH Label Solutions in 2016. The factory was small and was not blessed with the space required to move around safely. There were 1100l bins at every machine that were constantly filled with waste matrix reels that needed emptied several times a day. Apart from the general untidiness this caused we observed the handling of the reels from press to the bin and there was a clear health and safety risk for the operators. I had experience of waste handling systems before, so I had a pretty good idea what I needed and also what I didn’t need.”

When asked why Lundberg Tech was selected as their supplier, Hedley answers right away:

“We spoke to several suppliers before settling on Lundberg Tech. The detailed descriptions of how the install would go, what benefits we would get and the confidence that they had in their system made the decision for us.”

The benefits since installation of the automated waste handling solution speak for themselves:

“Since the install we have had no trouble at all, we don’t get blockages and we have consistent run times on machines due to the ease of stripping difficult shapes. There are no large bins in the factory which gives us more space and also looks much better. We don’t have a guy emptying bins into skips every day either. We have the waste being extracted and compacted which requires emptying approx. every 4 weeks”.

Hedley concludes with a final remark on the collaboration with Lundberg Tech:

“Our local Lundberg Tech sales representative would call in every time he is over.” He knows we do not currently need anything but still takes time out of his busy schedule to keep us informed of new developments and just to let us know he is there if we need him.”
