Smarter waste handling: ppg > wegoflex sees immediate benefits
The ppg > group, comprising ppg > holding, ppg > wegoflex and ppg > flexofilm, is committed to meeting the flexible needs of their customers. With adaptable production processes and a focus on sustainability, they develop tailored packaging solutions to meet the growing demands of their markets.
In 2023, Lundberg Tech partnered with ppg > wegoflex to optimise their waste handling process, aligning with their strong commitment to reducing CO2 emissions and improving their climate footprint.
Kerstin Treder, Betriebsleiterin / Head of Production of ppg > wegoflex GmbH, shares her perspective on the collaboration:
“To see the impact of a Lundberg Tech waste handling solution firsthand, we rented a WasteTech 140-140U in September 2023 to test on one of our slitters. The results were immediate. Encouraged by its success, we expanded the setup in December with a retrofit WasteCompactor 250. By February 2024, it was clear these solutions were making a real difference, so we purchased the rental units along with an additional WasteTech 140-140U for even greater efficiency.”
She continues, “With the ongoing positive impact, we further upgraded in September 2024 with a TrimCompactor 140-140U. Each addition has strengthened our waste handling process, proving these solutions essential to our operations.”
There are many reasons why companies invest in automated waste handling solutions.
Ms Treder explains: “Before we installed the waste handling units, our waste trims were blown endlessly into large bags, which were difficult and dangerous to transport by forklift. Handling them was also time-consuming and inconvenient due to the low bulk density and frequent transport. The automated waste handling units eliminated these challenges.”
On the investment, Treder adds: “The payback time is 2-3 years, but the benefits are immediate — reduced waste volume, easier and fewer transports, improved recyclability, and less noise disturbance. Overall, it streamlines our process and makes waste handling much easier. This system is a perfect invention!”
Lundberg Tech stands ready to support future waste handling needs, and further upgrades may soon follow.
Ms Treder concludes: “We still have 2-3 slitters operating the old way, and our operators have already put automated waste handling on their wish list after seeing the improvements on the upgraded machines.”
